Class 3 – Willow

Welcome to our Willow Class page

Year 3

Year 3 marks an exciting new chapter in our children's learning journey as they move into Key Stage 2. It’s a year of growing independence, confidence, and curiosity. In Year 3, we support children as they take on new responsibilities, helping them to develop greater ownership of their learning while still feeling nurtured and secure.

Throughout the year, children build on the strong foundations from Key Stage 1, deepening their understanding across all subjects through engaging, creative, and challenging activities. We encourage learners to ask questions, explore ideas, and develop resilience as they grow in confidence both socially and academically.

Our Curriculum

In Year 3, children enjoy a rich and varied curriculum that builds on their prior learning while introducing exciting new concepts. In English, we focus on strengthening reading fluency and comprehension, developing sentence structure, and expanding vocabulary through a range of high-quality texts. In maths, children deepen their understanding of the four main operations, begin using more formal written methods, and apply their skills to real-life problem-solving. Our science topics include skeletons, plants, and light, encouraging curiosity and hands-on discovery. Geography takes us on a journey around the world as we explore Australia, Brazil, and volcanoes, while in history, we delve into the lives of the Victorians, the Stone Age, and the achievements of Ancient Greece. Music is a highlight, with the whole class learning to play the clarinet, and in art, children experiment with different media, colour, and form to express their creativity. RE encourages respectful discussions around Christianity, world religions, and humanism, promoting understanding and reflection. The children always enjoy their time in Forrest school and develop their coordination and team work whilst they enjoy hockey, gymnastics and tennis.
