History
"Remember the days of old; consider the years of many generations; ask your father, and he will show you, your elders, and they will tell you" - Deuteronomy 32:7
Through studying History we want our children to get a really good understanding of our local, national and international past. They should find it interesting and want to learn more about the people, the places and the things that happened in the past. This will motivate our children to continue their study at their next school or at least take a continued interest in the past.
As they learn, children will develop some useful skills to help them form their own opinions about what happened in the past. They will be able to do this through research, asking questions, weighing evidence and forming judgements. These skills will help them in other areas of learning now, in the future and throughout their life.
Through history we expect our children to appreciate how complicated people’s lives are and how groups of people and their opinions and ideas change over time. Through the study of people’s lives, historical study will help them compare themselves and their lives to others but also develop their sense of who they are and who they aspire to be.
As a subject very much about people and their lives, children will be able to explore Christian values in those who have lived in the past.
