Safeguarding

St Peter and St Paul CE Primary school recognises that the safety and welfare of all of our pupils is paramount and we agree that safeguarding children is the responsibility of everyone. We take our duty to protect children seriously and will promote the welfare of those in our care as a matter of the highest priority.

Due to the commitment of St Peter and St Paul CE Primary to the safeguarding of children, they will always be our first priority.  We will usually discuss any concerns we might have about your child with you.  There might be rare occasions, however, when we have to provide information to or consult other agencies such as Children’s and Young People before we contact you.  Our responsibility to do so is determined by the Inter-Agency Safeguarding Procedures, which can be found on the Suffolk Safeguarding Children Board website.

If you want to know more about this, or the school’s child protection procedures, please speak to a member of the Designated Safeguard Team.  Our whole school safeguarding policies can also be found below.

If you have any concerns regarding the safety of a child or adult please call: 01379 870497 and ask to speak to the DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead)

The Prevent Strategy

Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist and extremist causes.

The Prevent Strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent groups and other causes.

How does this apply in schools?

From July 2015, all schools (as well as other organisations) have a duty to safeguard children from radicalisation and extremism. Part of the way we will protect children is by vetting visitors who come into school to work with pupils.

Promoting British Values, which are inherent in our school ethos, will also be part of our response to the Prevent Strategy:

  • Democracy
  • The Rule of Law
  • Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect
  • Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs as well as those without a Belief
